Our Program

We hope do wage the gap between consumer and producer. Our family owned farm was created to provide better quality food for our children and share our bounty with the community. We will provide descriptions to illustrate our superior animal husbandry. If you would like to know more about us please read through our blog post entries.

Black Angus Beef

All of our steers come from our family's ranch (SD Cattle Co.). The farm is located about 30 miles east of our farm, and is just shy of 4000 acres of grazing land. Why is this important? A lot of operations will import their beef requiring heavy vaccinations since it is an open herd. Ours are completely home grown and are in a closed herd.

When steers are around 14 months we bring them to the farm to start "feeding out." This term is used is many different ways, so I want to explain what it means in our production scenario. These steers will be on 160 acres that will leave around 10-20 acres per steer. We free feed hay and provide local grains once a day.

Pastured Poultry

We often get the question if we are saving money by raising our own birds, and the answer is no. Our goal is not to beat the price but to return to stewardship and quality. We don't want to feed our kids animals that are overcrowded, do not get exposure to sun and fresh grass, and are doused in chlorine .

From Poultry for Profits (Salatin, amended 2018), "To get them still, an electrical current stuns them, this keeps the birds from bleeding well and accounts for much of the black clotted blood around the bones of much of the conventional birds. Mechanical evisceration breaks open intestines and pours fecal material over the carcass inside the body cavity and contaminates the birds. Large chill tanks often have several inches of fecal sludge in the bottom. In fact, about 9% of the weight on department store chicken is fecal soup. The soft muscle tissue is more conducive to insoaking and the carcass sponges up the fecal contaminated chill water... This is why chicken can receive up to 40 Chlorine baths."

Conventional farmers and ranchers are doing the best they can to raise an abnormal ecological load of animals in a concentrated environment. This causes farmers to stray from biologically normal conditions to sustain this output. We want to feed our kids real food!
